Fake Dean’s Cup Fixture Circulates: UFH Warns Students of Scam

The University of Fort Hare (UFH) has issued a warning to students and the public about a fake Dean’s Cup football fixture that has been circulating online. The fraudulent poster, which features the Dean’s Cup branding and schedules for a football knockout, has been marked with a bold “SCAM” alert, sparking concern within the campus community.

The fake fixture, advertised for Saturday, 19 October 2024, falsely claims to be part of the Dean’s Cup Top 16 Football Knockout at the UFH Sports Ground. It includes matchups between various residences and student teams, giving the false impression that it is an official event. However, the Student Affairs & Residence Department has confirmed that this poster is not legitimate and urged students to be cautious.

UFH Student Affairs has assured the public that the official Dean’s Cup football event will go ahead as planned, but only as communicated through official channels. Any updates or legitimate fixture announcements will be posted by the university’s recognized platforms.

The university encourages students to report any suspicious activity or further distribution of the fake fixture to the appropriate authorities. The Dean’s Cup remains one of the key sporting events at UFH, and efforts to discredit it with misinformation are being taken seriously by university officials.

For the official Dean’s Cup schedule, students are advised to follow the university’s social media pages and contact Student Affairs directly for clarification.

Stay informed, stay safe, and don’t fall victim to the scam!
