University of Fort Hare Acers Return to USSA Tennis Championships After Long Hiatus

Tshwane, South Africa — The University of Fort Hare (UFH) Acers tennis team is making an inspiring comeback to the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Tennis Championships after an extended absence. This year’s competition, hosted at the University of Pretoria in Tshwane, will feature some of the nation’s most talented university teams.

The Acers will begin their campaign in Section C, with hopes of advancing to Section B through strong performances. The team is composed of eight players—four men and four women—who will each compete in singles, mixed doubles, and same-gender doubles matches. Among the players representing UFH is Sange Mtsi (pictured), a standout in the men’s lineup, who is set to bring his talent and dedication to the court.

“For us, this comeback is about more than just competing; it’s about proving that UFH has the strength and drive to perform on a national level,” Mtsi remarked ahead of the tournament.

Last year’s champions were the University of the Free State (UFS), and the competition remains fierce. Nevertheless, the Acers are determined to showcase their abilities and re-establish UFH’s presence in South African university tennis.
