Excitement Builds for the 2nd Annual Dean's Cup at University of Fort Hare

Alice, 19 October 2024 – The stage is set for the much-anticipated 2nd Annual Dean’s Cup at the University of Fort Hare, featuring top 16 teams in netball and football from both the Alice and East London campuses. The action-packed event kicks off at 9:00 AM with the toss, followed by the first matches at 10:00 AM, promising a day of thrilling sportsmanship and campus unity.

Football Draw ProcessThe football competition will begin with a unique draw process, ensuring a fair and competitive tournament. The teams from Alice and East London campuses will be divided into two separate pots, each containing 8 teams. Representatives from each team will participate in the draw, where Alice campus teams will select their opponents from the East London pot, and vice versa. This approach aims to create balanced matchups and ensure no team faces an opponent from its home campus in the initial round.

Matches and VenuesThe matches will be played across multiple grounds, with Alice Campus fields A, B, and C hosting the action from the round of 16 until the third-place playoff (losers' final). For the grand final, the venue will shift to the prestigious Davidson Stadium, where teams will compete for the ultimate prize in front of enthusiastic fans and supporters.

Netball ActionThe netball competition will run alongside football, following a similar structure. Each campus has 8 teams ready to vie for the top spot, with matches taking place throughout the day. The netball court setup ensures that all games are accessible to fans, providing a great atmosphere for cheering on their favorite teams.

Special Exhibition Match: SRC vs. University ManagementAdding to the excitement, the day will feature a special exhibition match between the Student Representative Council (SRC) and the University Management.
