BABY WOLVES DROPING POINTS IN THEIR HOME GAME AGAINST UJ SOWETO CAMPUS
University of Fort Hare's Baby Wolves Suffer 4-0 Defeat Against UJ Soweto Campus
Alice, Eastern Cape – The University of Fort Hare (UFH) Ladies Football Team, affectionately known as the Baby Wolves, faced a tough challenge on their home turf this past weekend, losing 4-0 to the University of Johannesburg (UJ) Soweto Campus. The match, played at UFH's sports grounds, saw the Baby Wolves struggle to find their rhythm against the well-organized and highly disciplined UJ team.
From the start of the game, UJ Soweto Campus dominated possession, pressing the Baby Wolves and creating numerous opportunities. It didn’t take long for UJ to break the deadlock, scoring their first goal within the opening 20 minutes. Despite their best efforts to regroup, the Baby Wolves found it difficult to contain UJ's relentless attack.
By halftime, UJ had doubled their lead, heading into the break with a 2-0 advantage. The Baby Wolves, under the guidance of head coach, tried to make tactical adjustments in the second half, but UJ’s pace and sharp finishing proved too much for the home side. Two more goals in the final 30 minutes sealed the victory for UJ, leaving the Baby Wolves with a disappointing 4-0 defeat.
“We didn’t perform to the level we know we are capable of,” said the coach after the game. “UJ was very strong, but we also made it difficult for ourselves with some defensive lapses and missed opportunities. It’s a tough result, but we’ll learn from this and come back stronger.”
This loss marks a significant setback for the Baby Wolves, who had been hoping to capitalize on their home advantage. The defeat leaves them dropping crucial points in the league standings, and the team will now be focused on bouncing back in their upcoming fixtures.
Despite the defeat, there were moments of resilience from the Baby Wolves, with standout performances from midfielder the winger Hendricks and goalkeeper Mpatsyana, who made several crucial saves to prevent an even larger scoreline. However, UJ’s quality on the day proved too much for the Baby Wolves to overcome.
With the season still ongoing, the Baby Wolves remain determined to turn things around and regain their winning form. “It’s not the result we wanted, but we’ll keep working hard and focus on improving,” said team captain Lerato Masilela. “There are still games ahead, and we believe in our ability to come back.”
The Baby Wolves will now look to regroup as they prepare for their next league encounter, with hopes of securing vital points and pushing up the standings.
